Artist Statement
My artistic practice includes video, performance and photography, but also physical objects, textiles and paintings. My work revolves around the central themes of physical, personal identity and perception, as well as the bottomless sense of time passing. In my recent work, I am particularly concerned with the medium of video in relation to the themes of identity construction, security and privacy, which I try to question with blur or slowmotion / timelapse in current social mediachannels, and in relation to space in different exhibition locations. |

Artist Bio
Anouk Sebald (*1971 in Bern) lives and works near Bern, Switzerland. Sebald’s work spans a wide range of artistic practices, including painting, textiles and found objects, but with a strong focus on photography, performance and video. After training as a dancer, she began to paint autodidactically, exploring issues of the body and identity. Her art still centres on the key themes of physical presence, identity, time and perception, which she examines through compositions of complex layered images and sounds in her video works. In addition, the production of videos on the iPhone and their publication on Instagram allows her to employ current techniques of self-re-presentation and identity construction, while also critically examining them.
Anouk Sebald’s work has been widely exhibited in Switzerland in recent years, including at gepard14 in Bern (2016), two solo exhibitions at DuflonRacz gallery (2019 & 2022), at the showroom of the collection Videokunst.ch (Eutopia, 2021), at Peripherie8 Basel, Cinema Rex Bern and Juraplatz Biel in 2022 and in various public spaces in Switzerland, Germany and Austria with videocity.ch. In 2017 she was awarded a 10-month residency at Schloss Schadau by the cultural department of the city of Thun.
